7 All Electric Trailers Hitting the Market

Electric cars, electric semi trucks, electric motorcycles, and coming soon to a campground near you: all electric trailers.

I guess I shouldn’t say ‘soon’ because they are already here. They may not be as prolific as electric cars yet, but a few manufacturers have models available for purchase or order today.

How does one define “Electric trailers?”

There is already a smattering of Class B’s/Camper-vans built on a BEV (battery electric vehicle) chassis. But for the purposes of this article, let’s focus on any towable that is sans propane or other fossil fuels.

Just as LED technology greatly reduced the power consumption of lights, developments in energy-efficient appliances have opened the door for fully electric RVs. By implementing 12v refrigerators, induction cooktops, and convection microwave ovens, the ability to almost entirely power an RV with solar is now a reality.

But if you’d like to debate, “You’re still using fossil fuels to generate electricity, yada yada yada,” I’m not your guy. There are plenty of social media platforms for doing that.

With that little bit out of the way, let’s get started with a well-known RV brand.

Forest River, with its behemoth umbrella of RVs, has two “mainstream” fully electric models available to purchase today. Both of these models are right around 21 feet and list for anywhere between $14k and $25k.

1. Cherokee Wolf Den 16EV

The Cherokee Wolf Den is the cheapest RV on this list. Even though it’s under 22 feet and doesn’t have a slide-out, it does have a pair of bunks and will still sleep 5. It’s a great little camper for a young family looking for something to start their RV adventures in.

And as one would expect at that price point, this (and the next rig by Forest River) is your run-of-the-mill-no-frills-everyday trailer—lightweight and adequate for most camping adventures. The best part is, no more annoying CO2 detectors going off in the middle of the night because the sensor is covered in dog slobber. (Just me?)

And in comparison to the other electric trailers on the list, it’s a heck of a bargain.

  • GVWR: 5493 lb.
  • Exterior Length: 21’ 9”
  • Sleeps: 5
  • Full specs and info found: HERE
  • Manufacturer: Forest River

2.Palomino Revolve EV1

The Palomino is the same length as the Cherokee and features a slide-out, but no bunks. So, there is not as much bed space, but a roomier interior. It’s a great set-up for those rainy days. As with the Cherokee, it’s a good starter RV, but it’ll cost you about $10k more.

  • GVWR: 5420 lb.
  • Exterior Length: 21’ 9”
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Full specs and info found: HERE
  • Manufacturer: Forest River

These next RVs, with the exception of the Airstream, are almost all from newer RV companies that specialize in this new wave of Electric RVs. They also look like they came straight from the set of TRON.

3. Lightship L1

The Lightship L1 was truly designed for the EV market. Featuring an aerodynamic design and onboard drivetrain and batteries, it claims to have almost zero loss of range for the EV tow vehicle or minimal mpg loss if towing with a traditional ICE (Internal Combustion Engine).

With an interior headroom of 7 and a half feet and 360 degrees of windows, you will have views for days. Just don’t plan on getting any privacy from your RV neighbors. But then again, I don’t think an RV park is where this unit is intended to be used. With the ability to sustain 7 days of off-grid use, you’ll spend more time amongst the evergreens and forest creatures who don’t care if all you brought to wear was your birthday suit.

  • GVWR: 7500 lb.
  • Exterior Length: 27’
  • Sleeps: 4-6
  • Full specs and info found: HERE
  • Manufacturer: Lightship

4. Pebble Flow

Wow! The Pebble Flow might feature the most advanced technology of any RV on our list.

Just like the Lightship L1, the Pebble Flow has its own onboard drivetrain to assist in towing and can also sustain seven days off the grid. It can self-park, self-level, and deploy the stairs and awning without you having to micromanage.

In addition, when it’s time to break camp, the “magic hitch” technology can self-drive to the tow vehicle and hitch itself. No more arguments between you and your copilot about how you almost backed into a tree.

  • GVWR: 6200 lb.
  • Exterior Length: 25’
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Full specs and info found: HERE
  • Manufacturer: Pebble

5. Airstream EStream

While Airstream may be one of the oldest RV manufacturers, the EStream definitely is not the same one your grandfather used to take you to the lake every summer.

The exterior may look the same—it is an iconic look, after all—but all of the rooftop elements have been moved inside to make room for a full roof solar array and make it even more aerodynamic.

As with our previous RVs in this category, the EStream also features a drivetrain and electric motors to assist in towing and stabilization. There is no more weight distribution hitch to jack up your shoulders while trying to lock into place.

As for the interior, Airstream has revamped the classic mid-century modern look for a crisp, clean, and warm living space.

  • Exterior Length: 22’
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Full specs and info found: HERE
  • Manufacturer: Airstream

6. Grounded

The Grounded towable is a concept vehicle only available for preorder at the time of writing. While I couldn’t find many photos or specs, it looks more like a traditional pop-up or hi-lo… but with a much more modern twist.

But what intrigued me about the Grounded is its fully customizable interior. As with their G2 campervan, you can basically plug-and-play the interior space, even swapping out features years down the road as your needs and desires change. Somebody on that design team is a big LEGO fan.

7. CoastRV Model 1

Coast Model 1 by Aero Build

The CoastRV Model 1 is about as modern and eco-friendly as they come. The interior finishes will trick you into thinking you’ve just woken up at the Ritz, not next to a lake in the Colorado Rockies. Where coincidentally, you’d be able to stay almost indefinitely due to its remarkable off-grid capabilities and all-season construction.

Aero Build started as a builder of custom campers (like this one) but has established itself as a major player in the all electric trailer game. It is absolutely worth reaching out to the good folks at Aero Build for a tour of one of these beauties.

All Electric Trailers on the Market

Regardless of which route your budget allows, there certainly are options for anyone looking to make the switch to an electric trailer. And as EV technology advances in the automotive world, more ERVs will follow close behind. Figuratively and metaphorically speaking, of course.

Happy Camping!
