Newsletter – September 5th, 2022

Hey there fellow RVers,

Welcome to another issue of our weekly newsletter. I hope this finds you well.

Under The Radar

As promised, we’ll start with the latest updates to the evergrowing “RV Master List” spreadsheet with another manufacturer, that had previously slipped under our radar, by the name of Bowlus.

They have 4 Travel Trailer models available:

  • Volterra
  • Terra Firma
  • Endless Highways Edition
  • Endless Highways Performance Edition

And as usual you can download the updated spreadsheet here.

If you’re new to our mailing list, ie. you only joined us in the last 72 hours or so, then you probably already have the latest version.

Product Recalls

“In early August, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued RV recalls that could affect more than 50,000 new RVs. The 2022 and 2023 RVs come from seven different manufacturers…”

https://camperreport.com/rv-recalls-2022/

Speaking of Bowlus RVs, the funny thing is that we only discovered them via the most recent product recall announcement from the NHTSA. Apparently the 2021-2022 Terra Firma and the 2021-2022 Endless Highways Performance Edition models have an issue with the service valves on the LPG tanks not being connected correctly, resulting in the potential for a propane leak.

If you already own one, they began sending out notification letters to owners in August so you probably already know about it.

Either way, the info we got was that they have done the right thing and arranged for their dealers to replace the valves at no cost to the customer.

It’s a simple fix but you can never be too safe, and hopefully it doesn’t reflect too badly on the manufacturer as these things just sometimes happen wherever humans are involved.

Here is the official notice on the NHTSA website, if you’re interested.

Events

There’s a bunch of RV events coming up in September.

If you don’t already know about the Grand Design RV Owners Rally, they just had one last week at The Elkhart County Fairgrounds in Goshen, Indiana, but they have a few more happening this month in California, Idaho, New York, Missouri, and Maryland.

Thanks to the wonders of technology you can see a whole bunch of videos from last week’s rally HERE

There’s always some kind of rally or convention happening somewhere in the country (we’re talking more than 70 events in September alone, way too many to list here) so keep an eye on the FMCA calendar for something happening in your area. There truly is no better way to meet, and spend time with, fellow RV owners.

Another good couple of resources for finding RV rally events are the RV Rally Hub and RVing Women‘s event calendar.

RVs Banned in California

Well, they’re not specifically banning RV’s, but they may as well be because, by now you are probably aware that about 10 days ago, California regulators made moves towards effectively banning the sale of all gas powered vehicles, in California, by the year 2035.

This directly includes Motorhomes, but indirectly includes Travel Trailers because you’ll need an electric vehicle to tow it… of course.

Here’s a snippet of the official government release:

“The rule establishes a year-by-year roadmap so that by 2035 100% of new cars and light trucks sold in California will be zero-emission vehicles, including plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The regulation realizes and codifies the light-duty vehicle goals set out in Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-79-20.”

So there’s still plenty of time to think about it and plan for it, but it’s good to know these things well in advance, especially for a potential new buyer.

OK, well that’s about it for this week. We like to keep it short and to the point and just give you the important stuff.

Take care, see you next week.

Regards

Ben & Michelle
